The story
Layla al-Malik is a young Palestinian woman in Gaza, seven years into a nursing education that war keeps interrupting. Avi Cohen is an Israeli soldier who once dreamed of becoming an architect. When a blast tears through a ruined street, Avi kneels in the rubble to save the wounded stranger in front of him. Moments later, when he is shot, Layla refuses to leave him behind.
What follows is a desperate journey through a shattered city: a broken old carpenter who gives them everything he has left, a clinic that hides a betrayal, and a hidden community of survivors.
